Policy Development

How you go about developing a policy will depend on whether you are updating an existing policy or developing one from scratch. Most Councils have had Asset Management Policies in place for many years so updating an exiting policy is a much more comon task than developing a new policy from scratch.

There are numerous reasons why a policy may need to be refreshed:

• Changes in legislation (e.g. new Local Government Act, Gender Equality Act, etc..)
• Changes to the organisational structure
• New learnings
• Changes to the Council Plan
• Technological changes
• In response to events not anticipated by the existing policy
